#TRLT Tuesday Traveller – Vicki Mattingly

I am excited to introduce Vicki Mattingly – who many of you know as @VoyagerVicki – as today’s Sunday Spotlight! I had the distinct pleasure of meeting her in person in Amsterdam, during one of her visits. She is at your disposal today, so please feel free to ask this well-travelled woman about her adventures in the comments below.

She is the founder of Voyager Vicki, a travel blog on cultural heritage travel. Her professional background is in publishing, and her passion is learning about people and other cultures. To do this, she has traveled to 79 countries on six continents and has lived in three other countries.

1. Why do you like taking The Road Less Travelled?
I love learning about non-traditional, off-the-beaten-path destinations that are not as well known as other places and sharing these with others. I think we can learn a lot from people and cultures in all parts of the world.

2. What are your top five destinations?
Spain, Mexico, Romania, Argentina, and Italy are my five favorite countries I’ve been to. Jerusalem, Paris, Istanbul, Hong Kong, and New York City are probably my five favorite cities.

3. What destinations are you most keen to visit?
Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Antarctica, the former Yugoslav countries, South Africa, Brazil, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan are the places I haven’t been that I’m most interested in visiting.

4. Share the story of one of your favourite travel photos.

children in India
This photo was taken in the early morning (I got up before sunrise) at the Pushkar Camel Fair in India of two friendly kids who happened to be out in front of their parents’ store before things opened.

5. What is the best piece of travel advice you can share?
Make sure you bring the following: Less clothes than you think you’ll need, more money than you think you’ll need, and an open mind and sense of adventure for whatever you may experience

6.Q: How did you find out about #TRLT Twitter Chat and what is it about the community and joining that you love most?

I found out about #TRLT probably from the Travelogx schedule of travel Twitter chats. I love the supportive, friendly, well-traveled group of chatters that I meet every Tuesday. I learn about new places and more about places I’ve been, and get to share my knowledge to help others in their travels. And iI’s nice to have a “travel family”.
