Guinea Photo Essay

I have been to Guinea twice now and going back the second time, after our family’s unforgettable backpacking trip around the world, gave me a completely different view of the country. The first time I was beat up by the road and it was hard to see past the hunger and exhaustion, the second time was a surreal blast into the past seen through fresh eyes. The first time was in 2008 with my entire family, we explored the countryside and discovered the farther reaches that most tourists never get to experience. The second time Kees and I stayed with one of his friends’ local family and despite very basic living, were treated like royalty. Kees and I returned to Guinea in 2013 looking to invest in some property on a tiny island just off the coast of Guinea’s capital city, Conakry. Stay tuned for more #FridayFotos. Next week is Hungary.
