Introducing Ali from The Wandering Feline
Ali is a travel blogger whose heart lives in Latin America, while her body currently resides in the UK. She loves wildlife and exploring new places in search of #TRLT . Always keen to inspire others to travel, especially women considering solo travel, she also seeks to add a little bit of adventuring spirit into every day life.
Q. Why do you like taking TRLT?
A. I think for me it’s about learning from the people I meet on TRLT and trying to see the world briefly through their eyes. This can give me a new perspective on life as a whole. It’s a real privilege to experience places and things that I know not everyone gets to do.
Q. What are your top 5 destinations?
A. This will change every time you ask me, but right in this moment I’d say:
Galapagos Islands, Ecuador – for the wildlife
Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia – for the incredible skies and landscape
Parque Nacional Tayrona, Colombia – for peaceful beaches, Caribbean sea, jungle walks and cheeky monkeys
Santa Tecla, El Salvador – for street performers and pupusas!
Isla Ometeppe – for tranquillity, volcanoes and lake swimming
Q. What destinations are you most keen to visit?
A. There are so many and every time I join #TRLT the list gets longer! The next big trip is likely to be Sri Lanka to visit the national parks, but other destinations I’m keen on at the moment are Cuba, Patagonia, Brazil, Canada and Tanzania. My dream experience would be to see a bird of paradise in real life in Papua New Guinea!
Share the story of one of your favourite travel photos.
This photo is on Isla de San Cristobal in the Galapagos Islands. Galapagos was a particularly special experience for me for many reasons. I’ve watched documentaries about it since I was a child and never thought I would be able to visit. But when travelling around Peru and Ecuador I met travellers who gave me some great tips to do it on a budget and it meant my dream came true. It’s a wildlife-lover’s paradise and was the place on my trip where it really hit home that I was finally doing the things I’d always wanted to do. This photo is on a camping trip to Puerto Chino beach. With permission you can camp on the beach overnight and we were the only people doing so, so it felt like we had our own private beach. However, we quickly discovered that we weren’t alone… we were joined by a family of sealions who came and hung out by our tents all day. Sealions in Galapagos are really curious and not at all bothered by humans. The family proceeded to check out our tents before letting out some fishy yawns, farts and then snoozing while the baby ran around shouting for attention for the rest of the afternoon. At 5pm sharp they headed out for a night of fishing, before arriving again the following day to share breakfast with us. To be this close to these beautiful (if a little smelly!) wild creatures was very humbling and probably my favourite ever experience of hanging out with the locals!
Q. “How did you find out about #TRLT Twitter Chat and what do you love most about joining the community
A. I found #TRLT by accident. I was suffering with the travel blues after returning from a year long trip and browsing online wondering what to do next, when I noticed some people I was following were posting with this hashtag. I was a little nervous joining at first as I didn’t know the etiquette of this type of chat – but it’s such a friendly group of likeminded people and I was hooked from the start! The thing I love most is how much inspiration and ideas I get from the community. Having a constant connection with other travellers from around the world keeps my mind open to new possibilities – plus not everyone in day to day life wants to talk about travel as much as I do – so this is a great place for that! Oh, and the photos! So many beautiful photos!”
Q. What is the best piece of travel advice you can share?
A. Just do it! Don’t let anyone else stop you from living your dream. Keep an open mind and don’t be afraid of a place just because of what you might have seen on the television – search yourself for a real view of a place. Listen to locals. Talk to other travellers for inspiration. And once you are there, live in the moment. Travel is life changing and one of the best educations around, so wholeheartedly grab any opportunity you get.

Thanks De Wandelgek – glad you liked them 🙂 The rain and mist on the day I rode the death road did give it an incredible atmosphere. Thank goodness for #TRLT so we can talk about travel as much as possible every week 😀
