** I must start this week’s #FridayFotos Photo Essay with an apology. Ammon and his lovely girlfriend Sasha, arrived this week in Holland from Canada for a short four day visit on their way to Spain for three weeks. I’ve been distracted by kisses in the tulip fields, Unesco Sites, giant dams and quaint Dutch villages. Thus, I was late with posting this week!!!! Today’s photo essay is BAHRAIN, courtesy of Ammon. In 2007, when Mom, Bree and I had temporarily flown home to Canada from our grand backpacking adventure, Ammon continued onwards and explored the Middle East. I think I speak for all of us when I say I regret not being there with him. Bahrain is another one of those tiny, overlooked island countries, the smallest country in the Middle East, that I would love to visit if I’m ever in the neighbourhood! **
Manama is the largest city in Bahrain and also the capital.
The Lulu or Pearl Monument roundabout. It was distroyed in March 2011 by the government to chase away protesters.

Bab Al Bahrain is the old business centre in Manama
The Sail Monument is dedicated to one of Bahrain’s most important industries, pearl diving. The monument is of two huge dhow sails that look like two shells twisting around a pearl. It is especially beautiful at night when it is lit.
