Sea to Sky Highway

My last stitch from my wisdom teeth surgery came out today and I’m feeling much better. So THAT means, we’re off to ski tomorrow. Bree, Mom and I packed up today and drove to Whistler, most recently famed for the 2010 Winter Olympics. We couldn’t have asked for better weather conditions. The roads were dry, traffic low and the shoulders were lightly dusted with snow. The water shimmered and the sky glowed, sandwiching the green and white mountains in blue splendour.

The Sea to Sky Highway must be one of the most remarkable and scenic routes in the world. I feel so blessed to have been born in such a beautiful country. I love the blend of modern and nature. One second you’re in a park of glass giants and city lights, the next you are literally driving past icicle waterfalls, lakes, snow capped mountains and spotting wildlife.

Unfortunately the drive to Whistler only takes about an hour and a half. I couldn’t put my camera down for a second of it. We saw two big bald eagles and, though slightly blurry, I was lucky to catch this shot while driving!

Despite having spent nearly every weekend on this highway when I was growing up, I still needed to stop at the viewpoints and sidetrack to Alice Lake. If we had time, I definitely would’ve made my umpty-ith visit to Shannon and Brandywine Falls.

The lighting was so perfect the entire way. We felt so spoiled.

We are fortunate enough to be sponsored by the Aava Hotel where we will be staying for the next two nights. It is my first time staying with them and we have not been disappointed. We have a beautiful white view of the mountain outside our window and are only a couple blocks away from the Whistler Gondola. Tomorrow we will wake up early to go skiing, where Whistler/Blackcomb will be sponsoring us for the day!

Mom and I just spent the past hour studying this Whistler/Blackcomb map and I’m getting more and more anxious about tomorrow. I’ve already got my whole day planned out. I think this is likely the most excited I’ve ever been about skiing! This place is massive, you’d need an entire month just to scratch the surface. Thank you again Whistler-Blackomb, BC for making this trip possible.
